Brainspotting Therapy

Some experiences live below words. Brainspotting helps you access and release what talk therapy alone may not reach.

You may have already done a lot of talking about what happened — and still feel stuck. Not because you haven't tried hard enough, but because some experiences aren't stored as a story. They're stored in the nervous system, below conscious awareness, in ways that words can circle around without ever quite landing.

WHAT BRAINSPOTTING IS

Brainspotting is a focused-attention therapy that uses eye position to help locate and process places where the brain and body are still holding onto distress. The premise is simple: where you look affects how you feel. By finding a "brainspot" — an eye position connected to an activated part of the nervous system — your therapist helps you stay with and process what's there, often without needing to narrate every detail out loud.

WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE

Sessions tend to be slower and quieter than people expect. Your therapist will help you identify what you want to work on, locate a relevant eye position, and then stay present with you while your brain and body do the processing — checking in, offering support, and helping you stay regulated throughout. You don't need the right words, and you don't need to relive an experience in detail for it to shift.

WHO IT CAN HELP

We often use Brainspotting alongside other approaches for trauma and PTSD, performance and creative blocks, chronic anxiety, grief, medical trauma, and body-based symptoms like chronic pain or tension that haven't fully responded to talk therapy alone. It can be useful whether or not you're able to describe what's bothering you in detail.

HOW IT FITS WITH THE REST OF YOUR CARE

Brainspotting is rarely used on its own here — it's typically one tool within a broader, collaborative treatment plan that may also include EMDR, mindfulness, cognitive approaches, or somatic work, chosen based on what fits you.

If talk therapy has helped you understand your experience but hasn't fully helped you feel different, Brainspotting may be worth exploring together.
