Somatic Therapy

Healing isn't only a matter of the mind. Somatic therapy helps you listen to and work with what your body has been carrying.
You can understand exactly why you feel the way you do and still feel it in your chest, your shoulders, your stomach, your sleep. Stress and trauma aren't only stored as memories — they're stored in the nervous system, in muscle tension, breath patterns, posture, and the body's baseline sense of safety or threat.
WHAT SOMATIC THERAPY IS
Somatic therapy works with the body as a direct route to regulation and healing, not just a side effect of talking things through. Sessions may draw on principles from approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy — using body awareness, breath, movement, and gentle tracking of physical sensation to help your nervous system complete responses that got stuck, such as fight, flight, or freeze reactions that never had anywhere to go.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
Your therapist will help you notice what's happening in your body in the present moment — tension, temperature, restlessness, stillness — often moving slowly and titrating how much activation you take on at once, so processing stays manageable instead of overwhelming. You'll build tools for regulating your nervous system in daily life, not just in session.
WHO IT CAN HELP
Somatic therapy can be especially helpful if you feel like you "know" your story intellectually but still feel dysregulated, chronically tense, numb, or disconnected from your body; if you carry physical symptoms tied to stress; or if talk therapy alone has felt incomplete.
HOW IT FITS WITH THE REST OF YOUR CARE
We frequently integrate somatic strategies with EMDR, Brainspotting, trauma-focused CBT, and mindfulness-based work, matched to your goals and pace.
Your body has been trying to protect you. Somatic therapy helps you understand how — and gives you new ways to feel safe in it again.
